Did anybody else have the wondrous experience yesterday of having them come and sit all over you? Mine were so active yesterday (bringing in loads of two different coloured pollens), I took the precaution of putting on a bee suit. Checked the fondant; they're doing fine. Sat for a long while just near the entrance, just looking, and they all came over for a look-see. Lots of 'em took a rest on my white suit; lots of 'em liked my black suede gloves (didn't have any others with me, so just used my winter "office" gloves). If I didn't know better I would say it felt like a lot of them were coming to say "hello, nice to have you back, where the hell have you been?!"

Hooray!

Wouldn't be too concerned about bad weather during March, as long as it gets reasonable from April onwards, unlike last year.

Unlike 2012, when a heatwave during March did the bees no favours at all, with what followed.

:yeahthat:

Jeff , Just spotted your in Thrapston.
Have you seen the field of OSR on the A605 ?

On Sunday had similar, we were working on the truck the other side of the house which is a good distance from the hive and had a few come land on the tools.. when I had a proper look there was huge activity.

10deg here today and saw a tiny bit of orange pollen coming in. First of the year!
I always sneak out of work a couple of times a day to check them. Gives me a break and a bit of exercise!

Pale grey and bright orange going in one hive today!

No bees working today but yesterday I saw:
Snowdrop, Crocus and Hellebore pollen coming in.

Hi Cazza,
What colour is your Hellebore and its pollen?

Hi Cazza,
What colour is your Hellebore and its pollen?

The Hellebore pollen they were bringing in came from Helleborus Foetidus and Argutifolius which are both green flowered with a light beigy green hued pollen.
