First experience of vapourising OA

Let's say that if I'm not selling my honey and any that I take is for my own consumption, what has that got to do with any bee inspector. I keep rabbits but a myxi man doesn't beat a path to my door. I have dogs but no one tells me what to inject them with or even that I have to (microchipping aside). No one forces pigeon racers to treat their birds in case they spread disease (although someone may correct me on this). My question is, just how much power and influence do these shadowy people have?
I would have thought that it would be a worse crime NOT treating for varroa than treating for varroa and not recording it but no officialdom seems bothered about that.

To follow on from the OP regarding vaping the bees. I have come down firmly on the side of trickling after months of prevaricating. it was so easy and so effective (judging by the mite drop afterward).

Their power comes into its own if they suspect that your bees may have a notifiable desease. Just like any other creature that is known to carry such desease. Up until that point you hold the power, after that point you lose!!!!

Or if you use an unlicenced medicine on your bees, as they now have 'agency powers' from the VMD regardless of whether you sell the honey or eat the lot yourself.

At my last BI inspection (Post AFB) the Inspector asked my permission # to take a sample of honey which was sent to labs and tested for illegal substances . It can back clean of whatever they tested for.

# I believe it is not compulsory but was innocent of wrongdoing so did not worry.

Just out of interest how would anyone know if you where using Api-Bioxal or Oxalic Acid Dihydrate with those type of tests..:spy:

By your veterinary medicine card - which each hive should have and should have the serial number of every treatment covered by legislation noted.

You must by law have a list of used treatments and batch numbers of medicines used. They might suspect you also if they inspect or just look at your place where you store equipment and see a 12V battery or a wand or other item of equipment used normally for OA. If it's a BI doing a visit on behalf of the VMD ( as I believe they do) , they have a statutory right of inspection - how far it extends to I do not know..BIs have the right to inspect without warning.

If they test honey, and you have not treated with supers on or recently, OA levels should appear normal. But in MY Case, the BI removed a honey sample from the broodnest.

Think it through - excessive amount of OA in your honey, balance of probabilities, you've treated - no treatment card, balance of probabilities you used generic OA - deny you treat, prove it - remember at this point it's a civil not criminal matter.

Pretty far - I was surprised, someone once quoted a paragraph of the bee act to me and my first thought was 'why quote CEMA to me - I think I know well enough what those powers are!'

I hope i am not being horrible to anyone but this is pure nonsense, i have used vet approved varroa treatment from ebay before today and i never received any any paper work for numbers of any kind, it's a load of *****.
I Vape mine with what i want for the health of the bees, so if anyone disagrees with that i will pay good money if you can find me let alone my hives..;)

Something you are all missing is besides a batch number (very easy to get) you also need a receipt showing the purchase of said treatment.

If you purchase Api-Bioxal from Thorne's (Newburgh) the receipt does not indicate what was purchased ... there's a price, but nothing else.

This must be a till receipt. Obviously in this situation you can make a note on the receipt and say that it's all or part for treatments. Likewise you can simply blag this :)

It is an offence not to record the details.
We should ALL be doing it.
