And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” 23 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.

24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

27 So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.

28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.

31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Somewhere about lunchtime on the fifth day there was a flash I think ....:Angel_anim:

Problem was on the sixth day he sh*t on the eggs and produced man..

No mention of bacteria? Oh yeh, no scientists had discovered micro organisms back then had they? But you'd think god would have told those blessed enough to write such an important book about them. Perhaps he needed a better editor.

Even Charles Darwin died a christian :facts:

...........and his interest in genetics stemmed from the fct he'd married his cousin and was afraid his children would be born with two heads  (apparently they were rather a sickly lot though :D

So as we know honey bees are a colony (as one) so my question is what came first, the queen, workers, drones or eggs or is there some logical explanation

If anyones interested in a serious stab at the answer- try thinking something like a solitary bee. It develops the ability to raise sterile daughters and you get something like a bumble bee; develops the ability to build comb and increase its stores, and you get the honey bee.

Simples.

Finman - i'm sure it's not allowed to print those pictures of Kate Middleton in the UK. Might be best to ask admin to remove the offending item before Wills sets his lawyers onto you, mark and the forum!!!!

re the religion creationism argument - OH saw a wonderful post on an OU study forum at the weekend:

"Dear Religion. Today we sent a man to the edge of space and got him back safely. You shot a child in the head. Yours, Science."

on a serious note - all female wasps are capable of mating apparently. you can potentially have several attempting to establish a new colony, each laying eggs whilst the others eat them. the winner is the queen best able to lay and eat (great way of selecting strong queens IMHO). Once first brood hatches the losers are suppressed and become workers.

If people are ready for some serious reading on this and related topics can I suggest they start with these two books (both published by Harvard press)
1) The social behaviour of the bees by Charles Michener
2) The Insect Societies by Edward O. Wilson

not convinced by any studies I have read :hairpull:

I sort of walked past this the first time, and have just done a double take. Are you seriously saying you don't believe in evolution?

(supplementary questions to follow dependant on answer)

I'd add to this the brief chapters on the subject in the following, which are generally available cheaply 2nd hand (eg at the National Honey Show at the end of the week!), or indeed are in many BKA libraries:

3) The World of the Honey Bee, Colin Butler
4) The Behaviour and Social Life of Honey Bees, CR Ribbands

In terms of functions and behaviours, the former is more general, the latter more specific, both are very readable 10-12 page summaries.

Why was it only Noah's boat that worked?

You never hear about his other boat- the one that was designed to sink to provide a refuge for the fish, which thus became the first carp ark.

:sorry:

Yes, and it had two decks, so technically it was also the first multi-storey carp ark...

:sorry:
