So all this talk about importing and different strains of bee is futile as the most appropriate bee to use is the local mongrel.

Thanks to varroa, it killed from Finland allmost all mongrels.
There are of course a gang which want it back...:svengo:
 
To answer Hawklord's question, formic acid is supposed to work when there is sealed brood present as the small molecules of the acid can go through the wax. But formic acid is generally only used when it is warmer. I have not heard of it working successfully in the winter.
