Changed over the floor to my ApiShield on one of my hives this morning and saw a lot of dead drones on the old floor with many still being attacked by workers, isn't this a bit early ?

Lazy workshy males, out all day picking up girls, coming home late, expecting to be able to just raid the larder.....do no foraging, no cleaning, don't help with the kids........:
They got what was coming to them [emoji6]

are there sufficient stores in the hive and/or nectar coming in? sometimes this triggers killing off the drones.

Drones get culled sometimes when the honeyflow stops abruptly eg the weather is poor for several days. Also when a young queen gets mated and starts laying colonies may reduce the drone population in the hive (well they do in some of my hives)

Indeed, its happening here already! worrying when I've got lots to get mated yet! we've hat a hot, very poor nectar flow and robbing is starting in earnest. you've only got tp spill some honey and pandemonium prevails. they go in to search mode, bees everywhere in any place where they might find more nectar, other than where you spilt the honey! incredible!!
