Went to help a friend open up his hives today. Hadnt been opened for just over two weeks as hive two was aggresive and gave him several stings, he only having had a t shirt under his suit.
Hive 2 today was quiet and a lot more friendly, with 1.5 brood, about 4 frames of sealed brood in the b/box and some store but not a lot. In the linked super there was no brood apart from on one frame where it was nearly half full both sides with drone brood!:confused:
There were a few empty queen cells in the (lower) brood box. The frame showing the drone brood was an unwired one but not drone foundation.

Question is... why so much drone brood appearing one one frame in two weeks?

hi mymwood

if you have normal worker brood in the brood box and all seems well their with eggs and un sealed larvey there is no problem bees make drones nothing to worry about.

is the colonie on a brood and a half setup and with only 4 frames of brood? if it is, its not strong enough to have a half box on top yet, i would take the half box off and allow the bees to fill the brood box first to atleast 8 frames of bees and brood. this will help them build up quicker les work to keep brood warm

thanks, that sounds a good tip.
