When adding the second brood box
is it added above or below the first ?

You can do both personally I find they go up quicker, but maybe that’s just me.

I put them below as if you put it on top it can be used more as a super. When the BB is at 8 frames of brood I put the next BB on below but I also super.

When doing inspections you may well have read that you can reliably check by tilting back the top BB and any cells will be clear to see. Great way to cast swarms I find as the cells are often in the middle of the frame and quite invisible from the tilting. Beware: if it sounds too good...

What would folks suggest if you were adding alot of fresh foundation?

In my 6th year I have more combed frames but many newbies will be adding BB2 with only FF available. ... Does it make sense to add some of the working brood frames to BB2 and intersperse FF into the spaces in BB1?

Or just leave BB1 and whack the second one above or below and let the bees build out?
