Long hive?

Why not ? All vertical hives have a horizontal component, just as all horizontal hives have a vertical component. What I find interesting is that as the horizontal hive becomes deeper - it then morphs into a large capacity (Dadant-esque) hive, having both components.

But - the bees don't seem to care either way. I have roughly 50/50 vertical/horizontal and just a couple with large capacity. Each hive type has it's pros and cons, but all are equally useful.

I am merely making the point that there is nothing new.

I have 2/3 of mine on double langstroth brood... I think it allows for a lot more free/natural range for the queen and her team to do their thing.

However, lifting the second box can often be bloody heavy.

I am tempted to make a Langstroth Jumbo/Dadant long hive... anybody know the best place to source such frames as these?

I can then have a broad deep expanse of uninterrupted comb area without having to shift chuffing huge boxes!
