Anyone know what is causing this..it is a paynes nuc and positioned near a greenhouse...the roof painted in floor paint is unaffected but the one on the nuc is the same as another one I took of the same nuc... could the sun be reflecting a hot spot from the greenhouse..?.

Certainly looks like heat damage. I got similar on the insulation in my solar wax melter, until I clad it with thin ply. Likely reflecting off the greenhouse.

It's heat or chemical.
You are probably right in your thinking re the heat from the greenhouse

Ive had nearly exactly the same damage making contact with Apiguard on the poly.

I reckon thats chemical damage.

I remember placing a small bottle of essential oil (lemongrass), on a hive whilst preparing swarm lures. Within minutes of placing it there it started melting the hive

did you wash the glasshouse with acid ? maybe spray drift

It's your colour scheme - destroys the eyes! :)

Two lids?

Looking at the picture, I think it’s time to give up on your tomatoesnot worthy. Oh the polynuc looks scorched to me

Emphatic yes!!

I had exactly the same occur to a Paynes Poly hive this year. I left a spare clear polycarbonate crown board on another hives roof during the summer just for one day. It was worse than your picture and I've filled it with filler and its fine.

No sun in Wales.... ;)

:smilielol5: Like it!

I guess it also depends on the colour of them, darker colours absorbing more solar heat.

The comment regarding lemongrass oil also made me smile, only because I've done it myself when adding a few drops as an attractant to the landing board, a few minutes later and I had lovely little holes appearing! :hairpull:

It's very localised with a defined straight edge on the left, and looks (to me),

about the width of a paint brush??

It is nothing to do with what it was painted with Martin...i painted three with the same stuff and the others are ok... i also had all three nucs in a row on a stand in the same place..

So swap the positions & see if you get the same thing again.

If you were that confident, why did you ask?
P.S.
Unless you have a T.A.R.D.I.S. they can not possibly be all in the same place!
Sure looks like chemical damage to me!
