Yes, I am always reluctant in catching swarms for all the above reasons. I always keep a baite hive next to my apiary in case one of mine decides to go but ended up with these... Bait boxes were down this year, can't be bothered.
 
Dealt with the little f****rs today, still as nasty as last week. I did a vertical split with all the remaining brood on top and new box on the stand with the frame of larvae from my most gentle queen I gave them last week.
It already had several capped cells.

I have a new mated queen arriving Thursday which will go in the hopelessly queenless top box. The bottom box will be sent to the goulag!!
 
A guy on Twitter has taken a hit to his business after a swarm he collected ended up passing on EFB to his colonies.

:ot:.... swarms collected from an unknown origin need to be isolated for at least one brood cycle for this very reason.
