dead drones

saw five drones huddling together outside the hive today and feeding each other..poor things, felt like bringing them inside! Also saw a dead bee with pollen on her legs which was a bit worrying, but a sneaky glance inside seemed that all was OK. Anyone else got dead drone stories?
 
It's the time of year now when all the drones get chucked out as surplus to requirement as they are just another mouth to feed and no matings planned.
The female of the species eh!

Mine were very abrupt about it this year: last weekend there was a little, soggy patch of abandoned drones a foot or so away from the entrance, with the whole lot apparently thrown out more or less at once. Several workers were ganging up on the more determined drones who were trying to get back in. They really are ruthless...
