Thymolated sugar syrup? I thought we couldn't use thymol now?

The only reason I can think of not to use it is tainting honey. If the colony is at stake, that seems a secondary consideration, surely?

And, surely, if you're feeding them syrup to help them build comb then you won't feed them enough for them to store it?

You can spray them with thymol syrup.


5ml of the base mix (see sticky) to 1L of 1:1 syrup and then lightly spraying them with three applications and four days between each spray.

Thymolated syrup treatment and a comb change would be appropriate IF nosema was confirmed.

AFAIK, nosema has not been confirmed, merely that the colony is sluggish drawing comb and not taking syrup.

Perhaps the reason for that should be investigated rather than jumping to the nosema conclusion?

Last autumn would have been an ideal time for feeding thymolated syrup …

Treat with what exactly? I understood thymol was banned and no other chemical treatment exists?

I owe an apology here; thymol is not BANNED but nor is it LICENCED for nosema. So my original reply was too tart. Sorry.
