and am still having trouble with sugar ratio's

Talk about making things hard for yourself.

Just dissolve 2 kg sugar in 1l of water, or multiples thereof. KISS principle at work. Bees don't work in litres or kilograms, they just use it. You just make it. Keep it simple!

I have made up small batches of 2:1 solution. 2 pints of water plus 4 pounds of sugar makes almost exactly 4 pints of solution. I also added half a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to adjust the ph etc.
 
rather than worry about ratios/recipes etc why not just fill your feeders with that sugar rich golden brown "syrup" that's sat in buckets/jars doing nothing.
