Can anyone recommend where to buy aluminium sheet?

20 sheets? 0.5 mm? One centimetre thick in total?

You can measure it quite accurately and it is not anywhere near 0.5mm.

One could take all one's offcuts (or even make a few extras) and stack them up, clamp in a G clamp or similar, and take a measurement of the thickness to arrive at a 'more than accurate enough' result. Certainly not rocket science. I did not rely on measuring a single sheet with my micrometer.

Much nearer 0.25mm is the truth and it may be less than that..

:iagree:

Rocket science it certainly is not but if you are that bothered by the thickness and you have a micrometer why would you go to the trouble of using a G clamping and a stack of offcuts, surely to get a truely accurate reading you would of used the micrometer and not being from a engineering background myself I certainly would not have notice the sheets are less than 0.5mm unles you had pointed it out

I have not used any of the sheets yet and only took one out for a quick look to see what they were like the issue of the thickness did not enter my mind and as long as the product is fit for the use it was sold for it still is not a issue

You said : To be honest I have not checked the thickness as I have no accurate way of measuring it(my underlining)

I outlined a very simple and accurate way of doing that. I did not say that I did it that way, just that it is a simple option, even for someone without an accurate micrometer. Just a little lateral thinking. 100 offcuts should occupy a five centimetre gap in a G clamp - easily measured using a tape measure.

From your response I take it you do not own a simple G clamp for instance? Or perhaps you would not have thought to check the thickness, believing all that you are told by FP!

I have pointed out here and elsewheren that believing all they might say or write down may leave some purchasers dissatisfied.

The initial thread opener included the spec being looked at. O.7mm was that thickness. Comparing item costs is pointless if comparing 'apples with oranges'; prices for 0.7mm sheets will be much different than 0.25mm

Have you tried a scrap yard, lots of aluminium there, Landrovers, trailer bodies industrial ducting, If you ask them to keep some for you they will let you have it at scrap value prices

I have a friend who has a caravan repair business. I get to choose from panels he has stripped from caravans that have been repaired. If I wanted to pay for it, I could order sheet alloy skin, but why bother when the free stuff is fine :) Might occasionally have a slight buckle in it, but the bees don't complain much.
