Next time you are in the supermarket, get yourself some 'ready-to-roll' icing from the 'home baking' zone.
Its fondant.
A couple of quid for a packet. Not a lot to pay, but a touch pricey for what it is. However its a dead easy, accessible, solution to an immediate need for a small quantity.
Wrap up what is left over in a poly bag, seal it and put it with your beekeeping stuff. It'll keep for ages.
My concerns about additives were waved away by a man who has a lot more experience of bee breeding than most, Terry Clare of BIBBA. If he is happy to use it in queen rearing, I'm sure no harm is likely.
I like this as I have 1/2 a pack of that suff left, but surely marshmallow is easier for bees to eat through, compaired to fondant that needs water added to it by bees?
Tissue paper ball/wad but I believe in Wigan they use a meat pie.
