On inspecting hives today I noticed one or two frames that there were small patches in the corner that had dead bees head first in the cells. I think it looks like isolation starvation as if small patches of bees have been cut off from the cluster.
I was not quite sure what to do abot the patches. It is on two frames in the corner and it looked quite grimey. I honestly do not think its a disease as every thing else in the hives is OK. I have no varroa and have sent samples away to check for nosema and acarine.
I have also a frame with a bit of mouldy pollen do I just take out the whole frame and replace or will the bees sort this out.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

Don't worry about any of it. The bees will clean the lot, dead bees, pollen the lot. Just give them a bit of time.

:iagree:

Bees without varroa, lucky you.

Thank you for the replies. When I say no varroa I mean I left the floors in for about 5 days and did not see one mite. I suppose the could be clinging on to the bees really well!!

Did you grease the slide?

Pertinent, but terse! :)

HM means smear the inspection board with vaseline or cooking oil so the mites stick to it. If you don't they can blow off, get brushed off, or be eaten by ants.
