I have made lots of poly nucs by splitting normal polybox with table saw. Split to 2 or 3 parts.
Then the missing wall I have made from polystyrene insulation board 30 mm.
Glue with polystyrene glue (PU). Bison jelly tube is the best. PU glue forms foam, when you spray water mist on it. It stuck minor gaps.
Then along time bees bite the lower and upper edge of the insulation board. But is you saw a one inch slice from hard polybox to the edge, bees cannot bite it.
Then glue the slice with PU glue.
It is good to sacrifice one polybox as spare parts. All kind of damages can be repaired with piece of hive plus PU Glue. Foaming glue helps to install pieces.
