Hi just wondering where people get there dn4 frames from which have the wax with them .wheres the best prices place?

Thanks

From Abelo, assembled and pre-wired. Top job:hurray::hurray:I have both Langstroth and National

Ok I'm new to bees . The dn4 are standard and will fit in a poly nuc right ?

The main suppliers all have websites - Thornes/Maisies/CWJ/Paynes/Abelo etc

Yes DN4 are standard - for standard national brood boxes

Wait for the autumn/winter/beetradex sales

You will see various combinations
D=Deep
S=Shallow
N=National

Style 1 has straight sides and are usually used with (plastic) spacers or castellated frame rests.
4 has hoffman (self-spacing) sides

I'm getting a poly nuc it's a maisemore I think. What are the different section on the entrance wheel ? I know the lines are queen excluder, and the dots are to stop bees getting out. The round circle is for general access for the bees ?

That sounds about right, i seen a handy tip on here a while back about those entrance discs, the discs can spin around on there own when they become loose so stick a drawing pin in to hold it in your preferred position because you do not want it spinning round and blocking the bees in if you are not visiting for a while.

That's a great tip thank you !So if I've got one of them poly nuc and I need another brood box would it be the dn4 frames that for that nuc

Hi,

I have a Poly hive and the DN4 WILL FIT brood and Sn4 will fit the super. I like Park beekeeping, comes next day if you order by 12.00 also comes with DPD do you can track etc I've used Abelo before and the courier never came and said he left the parcel in my blue bin!!

Ok will bear that in mind. Has anyone used maisemore aperies before?How long does there delivery take?

Are you able to make up the frames your self as you would save a fair bit by doing so.

If you can wait, buy seconds quality frames in the sales and make them up yourself. You will save some serious money. I have never had a problem with the quality of seconds.

Yea I could make the frames uo I've done them before. Where can I buy the seconds from?

All the main suppliers have sales from time to time. Thornes, Maisemore, Paynes to name a few. Think Thornes have some sale days round about now or coming up. I tend to bulk buy in the New Years sales and save delivery costs. Look at their web sites.
B+ explains the main frame codes in post #5. I use DN 4 in brood (self spacing Hoffman) and SN 1 in supers( shallows) , with 10 castellations.
Thornes catalogue ( available on line) has a good explanation of different frame types and codes

If Maisemore, I bought SN5/DN5 for national poly hive and nuc box. Took couple of days to get them. Pretty fast I thought.

Here's a screenshot of what I'd ordered:

Off the top of my head I think 50 flat DN4 seconds cost about £28 in the Thornes sale last winter. Might be wrong, but I know it is a real big saving and buy nothing else. I stock up on all my anticipated needs for the year in January. Pity foundation is never reduced.

I've bought the standard and premium foundation from Thorne's. With frames of each in the same hive, I've found the bees much more willing and quicker to draw comb on the premium foundation. The wax in the premium is much softer (I assume a greater proportion of beeswax in it). Has anyone else noticed this too?
