Turkey birds (to be accurate ) is a misnomer as is the Turkish word for the same bird 'Indi' for the reason that both countries mistakenly believed the bird came from two locations in the old world when infact it originated in the new world .

Coz they don't have a language of their own ??

In reality it's probably due to the English language being adopted much after the English peasants had been introduced to the bird via Mediterranean traders ! The people assume that all the traders were Turks !
Take the Mousehole report of slaves being taken by Turkish pirates . More likely to have been taken by North African pirates ?
