Please give me with some details of your experience?

Not familiar with venom collectors for bees, and not sure if anyone on the board will have more experience with it then I will.

I'm not sure it is a very common practice here in the UK. Probably bigger business on your side of the pond.

You asked in an earlier thread why some people have given you a negative reaction.

That sort of response just clutters a thread as it doesn't answer the question, and adds nothing of value to the topic.
If everybody just expressed their lack of knowledge to every question before allowing someone who has something to add to post then we'd never find the answers to the questions...

The majority of people on this forum are bee"keepers", and may find venom collecting cruel for any other purpose than medical research.

it may be more likely finding a vivisectionist on a pet rabbit forum...

I for one am glad there are people that collect venom as it is then used by hospitals for people like me that are allergic to bee venom.

its not cruel from what I have seen as the bees don't die. they are stimulated when entering the hive by very mild electric shock and sting the mesh and the venom is then collected on glass where it is scrapped off.

Thats cool DP. The only time I collected bee venom was with that hive from hell which kept donating as much as they could to me at each visit.

The venom collector was invented by Charles Mraz, a Vermont beekeeper. The model the Mraz family now uses doesn't kill bees. The stingers don't stick to the membrane. Chas Mraz, grandson of the inventor, once collected venom from 4 of my apiaries. He paid me something like $1200. Other than winding up the bees...smell of venom...I could see no change in my bees. The venom is collected in the autumn, when there is a large population of older, forager bees...that they really don't need late in the year.
