Thanks for all the input guys, I have plenty of good recommendations here to search for.

Are any suits full sting proof or nearly sting proof?
If you play with fire you'll get burnt.
Same with bees.
Could actually be good for you to get stung if your around bees and bee protein. To do with your immune cells.

I’ve always had the deluxe suit from BB Wear, one 12 years old & worn but my day to day suit, 2nd bought for best when out.
Advise speaking to a local association as when purchased as a confirmed member discounts are available - give James (at BB Wear) a call to explain.

Oz Armour used to offer full refund if you were stung through theirs.

I'd be interested in seeing details on that as I got stung on my a**e through my Ozarmour suit whilst bending over. I assume it was because it was tight and the thickness of the layers was reduced.

They probably need a photo:icon_204-2::icon_204-2::icon_204-2:

YES..OZ Armour ventilated bee suit..it is 3 layers of mesh that are 4mm thick..a bee sting is 2mm..i have delt with some mental bees over the past few years and have took many stings but never ever through a OZ Armour jacket..

So anything is gonna be a big improvement :laughing-smiley-014

We have a couple of similar items bought in a T's sale for visitors, standing a safe distance away. They do the job BUT I would never rely on one for an inspection, I have put one on to cut nettles and scrub from around the hives.

I am hoping a better suit hopefully might give me more confidence

Had my first little scare the other day when I had an accident while lifting the heavily stuck crown board and it was full of bee's underneath, proceeded to drop the crown board after my attempt at ushering them of with a brush didn't work and annoyed a few bee's (must be a better way) and the board squashed a few bee's when it hit the ground and made a thud when it dropped. Had a few come after me so I ran away but they let me return a few mins later to put right.

I am not ashamed to admit I am a slightly nervous when opening the hive as it's all new to me and having lots of bee's to deal with is something I am certainly not accustomed too or comfortable with. I'll do my best and if I can't do the best for bee's and me and improve over time then i'll have to reevaluate things.

It's what they claimed, no idea if they've had a change of mind. TBH, if that material is pulled taught, it wouldn't surprise me at all.

Yes a better suit will give you more confidence and you will slow down and not panic because barring accidents you shouldn't get stung. The bees will be happier if you are calmer and the hobby becomes the enjoyable thing it should be. Please don't save pennies now, a good suit WILL give you the feeling of safety that helps all go smoothly.

:welcome: Again to the forum and thanks for asking the question because I'm sure there are others out there lurking who will benefit.

I'm not serious about the claim :) the suit has protected me from a couple of horrendous hives this year (both thankfully requeened) so I'm more than happy with its performance.

When I bought mine a few years ago that was what they advertised. Money back if stung through suit.
To date have never been stung through suit and basically (in hot weather) inspect wearing shorts suit and nothing else. Had a few bad hives that required re-queening (I'm a sucker I still bring back swarms of local bees....will I never learn :D) they would cover me to the point it was difficult to see out of veil....not a sting through suit...some through nitryl gloves but that's been it. Total confidence in Oz Armour suits.

Where can you buy an OZ Armour suit from? And which is the best one to go for?

It seems you have to buy from Australia via Pakistan these days, there was a UK site when I bought mine.
Only the triple ply suit carried their guarantee.
Other companies have their own version of 'sting proof', Bee Equipment used to sell a similar suit for a fraction of the price. Sentinel Pro II is in a similar price range and BBWear and Sherriff have their own versions, in a totally different price range (crazy)

Hi smallbeehive, don’t give up, you will get more confident if you make everything as quiet and smooth as possible when visiting the hive. I was attacked and stung by loads of my bees when I first started and soon realised that as I am only 5’ tall the wooden roof was much too heavy for me and I was bumping and banging the hive taking it off and on. I have replaced the roof with a Maisemore poly one. So much easier and don’t forget the other piece of equipment very valuable to a newbie is the smoker. Sorry people to be slightly off subject of suits.

See if you can go through a hive with a more experienced beek you will gain confidence in amongst the bees and learn what is normal or to be expected

When I first started I did not know what were good and what bad tempered bees, even though I had been through my mentors hives a good few times. One of my colonies turned into the hive from hell and since then I have selected for gentle quiet bees. Makes the world of difference to pleasurable inspections. I have of course learned better handling techniques over time. I still get stung on occasion. Only to be expected, but now my body does not react to them.
