Hi I am new to this forum and about to embark as a natural beekeeper. I think I would like to but a warre hive with a viewing window. Where can I buy one that is already assembled.

EBuy?

There are also bumble bee nesting boxes with bumble bees (bred in Belgium) that may interest you..
can not post a link due to beekeeping forum:rules:

You have not said if you have any experience. I only say this because thirty years ago I decided to keep a few bees in my garden! I soon learned the error of my beliefs!
Please get experience before setting out on this venture and try and see a few of the hives you fancy! Of course you might already have done all this....so welcome too!

Welcome, good luck with your foray into the dark side of beekeeping ... if you haven't kept bees before you may find the Warre a bit challenging. If you are a convert from the other side then you will probably be fine.

As a Newbie I would suggest a hive that you can inspect with a little more ease than a Warre, occasionally, would be better for you.

You will find that the mention of 'Natural' beekeeping in this forum is likely to result in a few adverse comments .... don't take them to heart - they are all well meant.

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere we go again !!

Hi Georgie,

To respond to another part of your query, ThOrnes do a Warre with an observation window, at £242.

When I was considering buying one, I looked at this possibility:

https://www.holtermann-shop.de/index.php/cPath/1_234

Of course there is a hefty carriage charge, but, at that time at least, the exchange rate made it economically a good bet.

But please don't take this as a recommendation - only information.

Dusty.

As with the others I would think twice things can go wrong but on the other hand if you are in a rural location with no immediate neighbours it can work.

Hi I am new to this forum and about to embark as a natural beekeeper.

There are sites which specialise in Warre-style beekeeping, which may be more appropriate to join than this one - or perhaps 'in addition' to this one (so as to keep a wider perspective) ?

For example: http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/warrebeekeeping

There's also a good Warre sub-forum over at the Biobees.com site (which doesn't have a very good reputation on here, due to a personality clash). There's a German guy (Bernhard 'Zaunreiter') who posts there, and who's posts are a mine of exceptionally useful information.

I think I would like to but a warre hive with a viewing window. Where can I buy one that is already assembled.

Well - you CAN buy them, of course, if you're flush with money - but Abbe Warre entitled these 'The People's Hive': that is, it is a hive primarily designed for home construction by French peasants with few woodworking skills.

There are also some variants which may be of interest to you: The Delon Hive and the Russian 'Alpine' Hive - the latter of which I have built myself (very simple and straightforward, using condemned scaffold boards), which is now just awaiting a bunch of bees - as and when the weather decides to play ball.:)
