I'm confused by:

'Insert one Bee Boost lure in each mating nuclei when it is established or when the queen cell is inserted.'

Would this not make them think they were queen-right, and therefore reject the QC?

bee boost & queen rearing

from what i've read queen cells can be happily accepted by queen right colonies so long as separated from queen by a QE (whether or not clarke board to initiate cell building). so based on same principle your mating nuc should be happy accepting Queen cells even if "queen right".

Anyone have any experience of this product? (NOT Beebooster!)

http://pherotech.xplorex.com/sites/...ructionSheets/Bee/Bee-Boost-with-QMP-B201.pdf

It's a mix of 9-ODA, 9-HDA, HOB and HVA.

Some Italians seem quite keen on it and have been using it for AS whilst maximising acacia honey yields.

pherotech also make Fruit Boost which is meant to attract pollinators to valuable food crops (or not, according to this paper: http://www.ent.uga.edu/bees/publications/fruit-boost.pdf)
I've had it in packages to keep bees happy for transport before introducing a queen at a later stage. Not sure I'd bother using in mating nuclei, is there any point?

bee boost in mating nucs

gist of below - apparently maintains a greater proportion of bees in each nuc, maintains failed nucs ready for next attempt at introduction/mating and enables establishment without isolation and closure. only caveat is that all nucs must be treated to prevent drift.

further to earlier response

"Would this not make them think they were queen-right, and therefore reject the QC?"

Gist of below - in the first 3 days of queenlessness with pheromone bees won't decide to make queen cells BUT will support ones provided - they think "if someone has decided to make them then we will support them".

bee boost drivers

as far as i can make out one of the main drivers has been in order to allow the easy creation of queenless pollination nucs for glass houses rather than to augment conventional beekeeping (although apparently results in significantly increased pollen and nectar collection in one study!!!).

also interesting is the fact that most applications use <=1 Queen equivalent dose (+/- native queen). Using whole 10 Qeq (1 packet?) negates any benefits and in fact "confuses" the bees (as to be expected i presume).
