To add to our 4 shows, Betradex and 3 Festival of Bees, I am told another is on its way, Alex Ellis, Rob Nickless and another have been planning a new show since last year, still to get off the ground but I am assured it is coming.

Patrick. Are these shows owned by you?
Are these shows a showcase of Alex and Rob’s own businesses or are they a trade show?

What happened to the other big suppliers this year I hear half the hall at tradex was empty

Ok dude, are you going to bring a bunch of bees to these Fests?

Yes, we will be running beekeeping taster events, as well as talks and product sales. Hoping to create a real beekeeping road show reaching out to local people interested in bees and other pollinators. We also hope that local groups with join us and continue the training of potential beekeepers.

Don’t listen to rumors, look at the material posted online, we had more traders than the next show is offering and more importantly we had over 2000 visitors. A reminder, we are the second largest company in this field a few smaller companies didn’t attend.

Alex, Rob and another are starting in competition to my shows,

I was not at the board meeting Patrick due to having been exposed to Covid a few days before, so not party to any discussions that took place...no doubt will hear in due course. However this is not a new story. The BFA have been talking about this ever since the original Stoneleigh show moved away to Harper Adams quite some years ago. The arrival of Tradex in its place rendered the need/desire to do anything redundant at the time, but the concept has been kicking about ever since.

It may be a fresh wrinkle on an issue that actually predates these individuals being in their roles.....it was felt the move to Harper Adams made the show unappealing and the idea of the BFA having an appropriate spring event back at Stoneleigh had its origins back then. The idea actually did not even originate with the BFA, a group of traders (centred on the overseas contingent) actually asked if we would think about doing it.

Have not heard who 'another' might be...but suspect Alex and Rob are in the crosshairs mainly because of their prominence. However I only knew of this idea being back as a possibility when the BFA Scottish rep told me on her return north.

In don’t; know why but it seems to me most people on here want the Beetradex show to fail, As a CEO of a family owned business I’d have been happy to put on such an event at the weekend, just months after the end of covid restrictions and all the uncertainty that has bought about. Everyone has the right to make a dollar. I watched Patrick from afar during the event and he worked his *** off. Fair play to him. Money makes the world go around as much as many people try to deny it. Festival of Bee‘s sound good might be a bit of a trek, but anything that spreads the word and give opportunity for meeting other Beekeepers is a good thing.

All there was of any note was bee equipment 45 mins to pay for anything Sheriff suits sale price £220 and a few small businesses no wifi cash only many stalls total waste of time Any new show would be a god send

Following on from my post 10.

I have now had a couple of calls from attendees at the BFA board meeting and can clarify that this is *NOT* a reincarnation of the old idea of several years ago, and that it is also NOT a BFA function. That it was mooted...even in the planning...WAS mentioned but jn general conversation.

So I stand slightly corrected insofar as this is a fresh idea from the individuals whose concept it is, not a continuation of the old BFA idea which is dead years ago.

Sometimes I am out of touch....... lol

Apologies to Patrick if my post irked you at all...was meant to be factual, turned out to be rather approximate and not totally correct.

I don't think people want BeeTradex to fail - but we do want a proper trade show that has all the suppliers represented at it and therefore of interest to all beekeepers.

That is the challenge...

It is why I didn't attend - I want to be able to see choice and breadth and depth of suppliers.

Another pack of misinformation, Sherriiff bee suits are a world leading brand, you get what you pay for, the show had free wifi, maybe you just didn’t want to be happy that day hey ?

Well its hard to believe this is not a BFA promoted event when two of the key people at BFA will be taking a wage from BFA while promoting their own interests in the same field, if they resign from the BFA then that line may have some credibility.

Alex has resigned from Beecraft because of a conflict of interest, why not the BFA, or have the old days of the BFA returned when to feather your own nest is more important than integrity ?

Lets try again, not sure why my previous post was taken down

Just a minute. Patrick are you saying that somebody with a key role in the BFA can't have other commercial interests? Because that is how your post reads.
This thread is becoming something that the forum doesn't need and if you or anybody else persists in excoriating the integrity of others I shall delete the posts. This has to stop here please

I was somewhat in error...only partially. Put my hands up on that Patrick.

I don't see a conflict of interest there as it is being done by three individuals at arms length....not a BFA function at all. Steps are being taken to ensure that conflict of interest issues are addressed and complied with.

FWIW Patrick, I am not involved in any way or would have had more accurate info from the start...so I have no axe to grind in this. It was a surprise to me.

You guys earn every penny...dealing with the ones and twos market is a specialist task that just eats your staff time. Been there and still got the t-shirt away at the back of the cupboard. You took the commercial risk of resurrecting Tradex, and that is to be commended. I am not party as to why any one of the traders stayed away, although I suspect there is no one reason, they will all have their own rationale for the decision.

To the moderators.......as far as I can see Patrick is just defending his corner. Whilst the tone of debate might have slipped a bit, I would hope any of us feeling under attack could defend themselves. If claims...such as about wifi coverage..are inaccurate he should be able to tell us so, and there is not a lot wrong in feeling bruised when an apparent rival show is mooted.....history repeating itself from when the BBKA move old Stoneleigh to Harper Adams....there was some intemperate stuff said at that time. Surprisingly perhaps both survived and grew.
