I know I am old and my eysight is growing dim, however my wit is still sharp!

I was given a glass crown board to fit one of my old WBC hives, taking a quick check just now I saw what for all appearances was an ALBINO bee ! ... running back and forth across the underside of the crown board above the brood frames ( Top space).

My Axolotls produce nutonic / gold /albino types quite often, along with spotty dark wild types.

Has anyone else on this fantastic and friendly (mostly!) forum seen the likes of an albino bee??

Tall order but how about a picture...!

Sam

I did not have my camera with me.... and I usually do !!

I will try

Taking a quic pic of your bees is very useful, particularly when downloaded to a big screen, I have often spotted eggs etc that I can not always see on site!!

i agree - with modern 12-14mp cameras a quick snap of both sides of each frame takes only a couple of minutes. the images can then be viewed at leisure. eggs easily seen etc etc.

Nope but chalk brood hives can produce the odd bee that looks that way apparently, newly hatched furry bees look very pale, some pollens that cover the bee may be very pale...

...pass.

I thought I had a albino queen, but then I realized it was the leaky white marker I was using.

WHY did I not think of that? Brilliant idea! I read this and then I went out and did it. It was just a quick wee look on one frame just to take a picture. I found it difficult to see the eggs outside, but they are easy to spot on the screen later. It is just a cheap digital camera but you can see everything.

Himalayan balsam is now in flower, could it of been covered in pollen from that.

Went through colony yesterday as the sun came out ..... no sign of any problem and no albino bees. Queen was so busy laying she did not even notice me!

Something is making me sneeze... Himalayan balsam ?

I was chuffed to bits today when I found brood and eggs in a colony I had more or less given up on (very long story), but I spotted 2 bees which I can only describe as albino. I've attached the extremely poor photos that I took with my phone. I'll take the dslr with me next time!
One of them can be seen in the photos, they were mainly yellow with paler stripes.
