My two home hives have different queens. One is a local mongrel, the other a bought-in Carpathian. Bees from the local queen are out most days, except when it's raining, bringing in pollen and generally acting like it's Spring. The ones from the carpathian hive are very rarely seen, even for cleansing flights, although on the hottest of days there is a rush out of the hive and a corresponding need to wash the car.
Is this kind of difference typical? Is it related to the queen/genetics, or should I like elsewhere for an explanation?
