Factories,especially packing depts will invariably have the occasional smashing time - I rinse and bake mine regardless.
The thought of that powdered glass cloud wafting across the loading bay.........

I have had the odd jar with a chipped edge or broken corner so ALWAYS put my jars through a dishwasher inverted to make sure any debris is washed out. The thought of a sliver of glass on someone's toast gives me nightmares.
