    Gasvap Modifications

That's exactly what I do. A few taps on the side of the cap with a hive tool is all it needs to remove the cap if it sticks a bit. I've never had a problem with the tube getting bunged up and been using this method for a couple of years now. I let the whole thing get really hot before starting...

    Colony density

I had two old apiaries on Beebase no longer in use so I emailed them and they were deleted a few days later

    BBKA membership

Thank you, yes the BDI is the important bit, public liability and all that!

    BBKA membership

Does anyone know what individual membership of BBKA costs with 5 hives?

    no summer flow yet

I'm also quite near you and I'm finding the same. I had a good spring and early summer crop but the last few weeks nothing. I usually leave them at least a full super on each hive for the winter but I've ordered syrup as it looks as if I may have to feed them. Masses of pollen though. this year.

    Vaporiser

I too would recommend the gas vap, really quick and easy to use, no heavy battery to cart around and seems to be very effective. I've had practically no varroa drop this season after each hive had 3 treatments at intervals in December.

    Queenless / Queen Introduction Question

I have a similar situation but my source of eggs from my other hives would take at least 40 mins to transfer from one apiary site to the queenless site. What's the best way to do this?

    Stirring soft set honey

I've just been given a KitchenAid and I'm wondering if I can use the dough mixing bit to do some soft set, I only want a few jars so the bowl would be big enough. Has anyone tried it this way?

    Is it petrol time...

Shall I put you down for a swarm then? They're still coming in!

    Exceptional Swarm season

Above average swarms around in East Sussex. The swarm phone has been getting several calls a day since early April, now running out of new homes for them. Too many beekeepers are not managing their hives properly although quite a few swarms have been from colonies in roofs. The callers are...

    Moving Colonies

Could you not move the ones from your garden to your other existing site, wait a couple of weeks and then move them to the new site? I moved a couple of hives about 200 yards, left them shut in for 48 hours and all was ok however that was a month ago. I did leave a poly nuc at the original site...

What's the source of bright yellow on the worker bees backsm

All our hives had worker bees with bright yellow on their backs, mainly the thorax. Looks like someone gone mad with a queen marking pen. Any ideas what plant the pollen could be from? We're in Sussex between the sea and the downs, not near any streams or rivers.

    Seeing Red or Not

You can get a bright pink posca pen which is really easy to see, use this instead of red. One of my pink marked queens is in her third season and is still well marked.....yes I know it's not right for the year!

Please help me identify this bee

They were found during the last two weeks of June, 2nd floor flat balcony, about 30 dead ones twice, a couple of days apart and one or two found other days. These were found in Rottingdean on the South Coast, a few miles from Brighton. They are very slightly smaller than a honey bee. I was only...

About 100 of this type of bee have recently been found on the balcony and just inside a second floor flat in Sussex. Can anyone help me identify it?
