International Meeting of Young Beekeepers - IMYB

Getting young people into beekeeping is one of those on going challenges that will continue, I sadly feel. However saying that there are more and more opportunities. You've got the IMYB which is a fantastic experience for anyone privileged enough to get the chance to go, and hopefully with the...

    Imyb 2015

Hello people, I've just found out about the dates for this year's International Meeting of Young Beekeepers (IMYB). Having had the privilege to go two years ago I think its such a fantastic opportunity for all young beekeepers - and if you know anyone the fits the age range please let them...

Calling Young Beekeepers of the North West!!

Hi Henry, I've just had a thought have you got in touch with an of the other local associations in the area regarding bee suits? I'm sure most will at least have one of two, or maybe they might be held at a county level, and I'm sure they'll let you borrow them for the day. I hope it goes well...

Where to put the APILIFE VAR

Hi Martin, About having the supers on, I'd be dubious about using them again next year for honey due to traces of thymol in them. You can always take them off whilst your treating and then put them back on once you've finished. And if you put them back on, to use a stores throughout the winter...

    Too early for Apiguard

As long as you haven't got any supers on its fine to treat. I've been mainly focused on building up my colonies this year, and I've had treatments on at different points of this year already, depending on the colony. Georgia

    Evening inspection, good or bad?

Hi, inspecting your hives in the evening is fine, as long as it isn't too cold. I often end up checking my hives in the evening once I've come home from school. Georgia

should juniors be allowed to keep bees?

The point I'm trying to get across is, if you have a competant young beekeeper who can manage their hive/s in a proper maner and are covered by insurance. But they have a parent/guardian who doesn't want to keep bees or over-see them, why shouldn't they be allowed to be joined as a full memeber...

should juniors be allowed to keep bees?

hello Travelator, I have been in touch with the BBKA about the insurance policy for 3rd party and product liability and they have told me that juniors are covered. Also, just to make sure, I got in touch with Towergate (the insurance broker) and they have told me 'there is no age limit to the...

should juniors be allowed to keep bees?

:thanks: Dad said to me: engage my brain before talking and if you go round saying the wrong things to the wrong people and get a punch in the hooter its your own fault, that way I'll learn about life. :)

should juniors be allowed to keep bees?

What a shame that you think no-one under the age of 17 is responsible enough to keep bees in their own right. Yes there are young people that are irresponsible but surely it applies to adults as well? Yes there is a lot to learn, but no matter what your age is you've got to learn it. Some of us...

should juniors be allowed to keep bees?

It is nice to know that so many people support young people keeping bees. However I do not like that the BBKA are making the parent/guardian, of a junior, join up as a full memeber. Yes the parent should be a member, but is being a full member necessary, surely an associate is enough? And then...

should juniors be allowed to keep bees?

I have just read the propositions -sent out by the BBKA- for next years ADM, and I was rather interested in the change of membership for juniors. I was wondering what other beekeepers, especially other juniors, views on it were? Georgia
