    Clearing Bees from Supers

I have just finished putting Rhombus Clearer Boards on 4 of my hives, unfortunately the weather is now looking atrocious for the next couple of days (heavy continuous rain). Question for collective wisdom of the Forum: how long can I leave them on before the bees work them out and start...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Winter checks around the apiaries. The rate of fondant consumption is steadily increasing and all hives now bringing in a little pollen. Blackthorn buds looking as if they will bloom shortly and the odd Dandelion in evidence. Need to have a look to see how the OSR is progressing. It's all about...

    “Indian” Summer next week?

With sunshine and temperatures up to 24/25C next week in the South West, I’m considering leaving the last few supers on in the hope of offsetting a rather dismal summer honey crop. Opinions, risks/potential benefits? Over to the collective wisdom of the Forum…

    Rhombus Clearer Board Question

Has anybody tried clearing two supers at once with the above? If so how did you get on, and how long did it take? Many thanks.

    Thornes' Nasanov Swarm Lure

I was in the process of stocking up odds and ends for the coming season when this caught my eye. Has anybody tried the stuff - and if so, how did you get on? I usually do quite well with old brood comb with a touch of lemongrass oil, but figure it might be worth a punt. Thoughts anyone? Many thanks.

    Burgess Fogger

Had a go about 3 years ago fogging OA in ethyl alcohol. Eventually gave up when it became apparent that it was (very) approximately 10 - 20% less effective than sublimation. I have now reverted to the Gas-Vap which, with a little practice, gives good results.

I always use a page from the FT, has never failed (yet) - and they produce a rather attractive pink confetti!

Mixing Soft Set - Spiral or “Propeller”?

Currently using a low speed mixing drill with a Thornes propeller mixing attachment. Are there any advantages to the spiral type mixer - or doesn’t it matter?

    Overwintering a Maisemore Poly Nuc

Thanks guys - I'll give the deep roof option a try and if that doesn't work go down the drill and bung route. Again, thanks to all.

    Overwintering a Maisemore Poly Nuc

A quick one for any Maisemore poly nuc owners out there. I have a very small, very late (end Sep) swarm in a Maisemore 14x12 poly nuc (with associated small Miller type feeder that I am looking to nurse through to spring) - more in hope than expectation. They are Q+ with brood. Later this...
