    Freezing frames

I have a number of super frames that are partly full and partly capped. I have sufficient stores on the hives, so can i freeze these frames and put them back on in the spring? Thanks :)

    Boxing glove hand

took a few stings yesterday on the hand whilst inspecting a hive, only really noticed 1 which i scraped out with the hive tool. thought no more about it and went on with the inspection. Started to itch and a little swelling in the evening, but during the night i would have chopped my hand off to...

    Removing honey from cappings

How do you remove honey from your cappings? I have slowly melted down the cappings/honey in a big pan with the intention of removing the wax from on top when it has cooled and to use the honey for myself/cooking any other ways?? Thanks

    What do you think?

wanting to swarm or wanting to chill? As you can see, the hive on the right is on a double nat BB with 2 supers on. Previously this colony has swarmed and then thrown a cast. not sure if you can tell from the pic but there is a QE under the bottom BB to prevent any more casts whilst i await the...

    Vortex Bee Escape Board

Had some time to spare this afternoon so knocked up a clearer board. :smash::smash::smash: It is Roger pattersons square version. I didn't have a hole cutter so had to chew it out :smilielol5: hence the not very round shape! just needs covering with mesh and treating, then ready for the test run!

    supers not cleared

I have just (yesterday) put one of my hives on double brood, it had 2 part filled supers on it so yesterday i left a clearer board with 2 porter escapes under the supers and QX (in case there are any drones up there!), so i can put a feed of syrup on to get them to draw out the top BB. this...

    Killing queens

Something i don't look forward to, but there is sure to be a time when uniting colonies perhaps or replacing old queens that a queen needs to be killed. just wondered about how you all would do this? Thanks

    Clearing supers

During the season we put on more supers as the colony expands, and of course, one of the reasons for this is to prevent overcrowding. So, what about overcrowding when the supers are removed:confused: There must be a time before wet supers are given back to the bees when a lot more bees are...

    2 new apiary sites secured!

I have just managed to secure 2 apiary sites  one in a big garden/orchard of a big country house 10 mins from me.(maybe just a couple of hives going there) and another in a paddock near orchards and OSR fields, this one is a little further away (20 mins) room for as many hives as i want...

    My 1st AS (Horsley board)

I had inspected this colony last Friday and noticed a few play cups, some with eggs in them, i removed these at the time of inspection. Thought today i had better check again and found a few play cups with larvae and jelly and 2 sealed Q cells (which were removed), didn't see HM (not seen her...
