Anyone have a template for a correx nuc?

Why not? It's something to do, is a bit of a challenge and it doesn't hurt anybody. I enjoyed making mine, and had to work out the measurements because I use Jumbo Langs. They're plenty big enough for a bait hive, but I've found they do need a section of mesh floor if a colony is going to be in...

    Smoker Fuel

Careful with teabags. Most of them aren't fully biodegradable because they contain strands of plastic. I'm not sure I'd want to waft any burning plastic into my bees.

Uniting with Supers after failed AS

If the hives are already closer than 3ft apart you will only need to move the smaller hive. If they're further apart it's a good idea to move them closer together before combining. You've probably already done this though, if it was needed. There's no need for two lots of newspaper. The top...

Anyone have a template for a correx nuc?

Try this thread on the Scottish site. You'll have to close the gaps in the first part of the url because this forum's software removes it. http://www.sbai. org. uk /sbai_forum/showthread.php?204-price-of-a-home-made-nuc& The measurements for a National nuc are in the picture on this page of Jon...

I think it's the same as other innate abilities and skills - some people can and others can't, no matter how hard they try.

    'Wannabee' from Pembrokeshire

If you want a real challenge you might like to work your way through the longest-lasting thread on the forum, it'll give you an idea of what some beekeepers do and when. There are only 1795 pages! "What did you do in the Apiary today?" http://www.beekeepingforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=8543

How big an entrance on a nuc.

If the box is the right size then it'll attract a swarm even though Seeley's research suggests otherwise. What you won't do is attract swarms when there aren't any. In this area there have been very few swarms this year, maybe it's the same where you are?

    Supercede or Supersede

The Random House dictionary is based in the American-English Webster (now = Merriam Webster) dictionary that originally used some archaic, non-standardised, spellings. He intended it to be more phonetic than any of the UK-based dictionaries hence 'color' and 'program'.

    Can someone please explain this?

That's brilliant news. You do realise that this makes you one of the Finn's 'two hive beekeepers'! :D

    Weather damage here

The high temps they forecast didn't happen and it's quite cold. The rain did arrive, but in greater volumes than the computers predicted. I'd swap as much rain as you need in return for some of your dry HM, if only I could.

    bee hives stolen

It's sad that branding hives is no longer a deterrent to thieves. I hope these hives get found, complete with bees.

    Beekeeping in the park

The other school of thought is that if the hives are highly visible then miscreants would have less time to damage them, and the local community would start to 'own' them because users of the public space would see them and watch what happens, and might even be interested in learning about the bees.

Some colonies are determined to swarm

Try looking up Taranov Split or Taranov Swarm Control, it's described on a few blogs both in this country and across the pond.

    Poorly bees- CBPV?

Don't rule out Nosema ceranae, it's almost symptomless except that the bees fail to thrive, but it can be seen in a microscope. Has your association got any microscopes? OA trickling in January was probably a waste of time because it was too warm, and colonies would probably have had a decent...

    Bee careful

Ouch! I didn't believe in 'beekeepers back' until I asked an osteopath how many of his patients are beekeepers. I'm now on his list too!
