    how to encourage capping in supers

    in order to encourage full supers to be capped, is it best to place new, empty supers under or above the full one which you want capped? just about got a full super and have put an empty super with equal split of drawn frames/new foundation above it, but i got to wondering which is the best way...

    i have a newly mated queen in a mating nuc and a Q- 5 frame nuc. unfortunately i have no fondant at present. if i put her in an introduction cage and tape the entrance for a day, then remove the tape, with this be sufficient to allow her pheremones to pass through the colony and (hopefully)...

    no offence taken! the lady in question was shall we say advancing in years and hadnt kept bees for some time, she was also living alone after being widdowed a while back. i also think she was reluctant to go too close to the box for fear of an adverse reaction to any possible stings. in any case...

    Hi Yorkshire Bees i askedthe lady to describe the bees and she was adamant they were honey bees. from the description and the fact that she told me she kept bees for 15 years i believed they could have been a small caste swarm.

    can anyone recommend a 10" tct blade - presumably they are universal and will fit most saw makes? For general purpose use is there a recommended number of teeth the blade should have. excuse my ignorance but i'm only just getting started on the DIY side of things! cheers.

    hi all, and thanks very much for all your help and advice. in the end, i lost the saw i was bidding on through e###, but i was lucky to get a Clarke 10" saw last week for £50. i dont think its a particularly high spec and leaves a little to bew desired in terms of accuracy, but it meets my needs...

    HM - i've read that hair rollers can be used to secure closed QCs. could these be utilised in the trype of frame you've illustrated or should something more robust be used like the cage you've shown?

    thank you for all the replies and useful links. i'll look into the spec a bit more and certainly view before i buy, but from feedback and what i've looked at, it seems a pretty decent saw - plus i agree, the portable / storage side is definately a consideration for me. i cant get over the price...
