I am also curious to know what sustains the top BB ,As i am using the Horsley Board mathod on a perticular Hive and the slider closed ,so the bees have no contact with supers.
I am trying the horsley board method this time,And i think it will very soon as a couple of my hives are really busy and with between 5 and 7 frames of Brood .
They are all DB and looking like we are into a flow. With this method being very simmilar to demaree would now be the time to start the...
Not condescenting at all and thank you for your comment .Yes i have time till next season and with this years summer honey sales i can just about manage to buy one. LOL.
I am using maismore poly hives and all measure 500x500 mm i was using the plastic Q excluders last couple of years , but now want to go with the metal wire type. Not punched ones. Nearly all the framed ones are for 460x460 and do not fit to the edge of the box. I can get wire only to fit ,but...
Just managed a quick inspection between heavy downpoar ,No dead bees seen and all looks calm.Inspection board quite clear also, Managed to get another BB on so now DB and just left them for today. See what tomorrow brings.Did not feed. Thank you.
Please read my posting again. I did not say that they had run out of stores.I said very little stores. As my apiary is several miles from my home and i have nowhere to store any spare kit on site.Again as i said i am almost in the middle of acres of spuds ,acess is not as easy as it may be for...
The QX was below the super as i always have done ,I do not want to go brood and half.I understand what you mean and rightly or wrongly my reason for putting it on was just to give a bit more space for the bees till the weather improves and it also gives a cpl days for me to work out what to do...
I went back later last night and all seemed calm ,but did not open up to have a look ,I will check today ,But as i have a super on should i put a feeder on top ,or below the super. To move away is not an option for me im afraid.
Due to the very poor weather we are having here in lancashire yesterday was the first day i have been able to inspect my hives for 8 days. I have one hive that has been building up nicely with a this years postal mated Queen .SB national and she had run out of room to lay ,I did not think there...
Thanks Ian,managed to get back to the said hive ,Bees were not very happy but thats understandable. Destroyed all Q cells i could find ,another blast of Air Freshener and ill leave em now for a few days see what happens.
I think i may have made a very big mistake with being in too much of a rush. I have a Q- hive that i know is a definate. Today i united via the newspaper method with a spare laying older queen that i had in a 6 frame nuc with eggs and some cap brood. However in the Q- hive i did see a lot of...
Yes shook in a few frames of bees and left in same apiary ,also checked for any Q cells but all clear.I also removed the attendants .I know not everyone agrees to this method but its done now.Thank you.
A first for me,i have made up a nuc with two frames of capped brood bothe from seperate hives , one of pollon two of foundation one drawn frame and one of stores . This was made up 48 hours before i introduced a postal mated Queen in a push in cage.I do not want to disturb them now for a few...
Inspected a DB hive 4 days ago and was confronted with several Q Cells ,Not expecting to see this and not having any equipment with me it was a bit of a Ham Fisted attempt to find the Queen and Nuc her,This i did but due to another (non bee related) issue i was very hasty in checking and...
