    Ventilated suits

Thanks for your comments; I emailed both M'more and M'Lake to see if they had any better photos of the suits that they offer and only M'Lake came up with the goods. I'm still undecided but if anyone happens to be going to the Spring Convention and happens to look at the suits I would love to see...

    Ventilated suits

Has anyone any experience with ventilated suits? Mrs B tends to get too hot in her cotton Sherriff suit. It looks like there are two types of ventilated suits available from the USA and now M'more offers one; before we invest any comments or advice would be welcome. Jim

    Doing the maths

Thanks for the replies, I obviously didn't have my brain in gear if I'm buying sugar at 68p/kg from Costco it has to be way cheaper than buying ambrosia at £1.25 kg. My next question is has anyone done a conversion between the dry weight of the sugar and the wet volume of syrup i.e. 1 pint of...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Mrs B and I managed to extract 5 supers of honey yesterday with a borrowed 4 frame tangential extractor, we only have another 8 to do. The upside of it all is that I now have permission to buy a 9 frame radial this year and a motor for it next year unless I can find a good S/H one.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

OK it was yesterday, but I managed a full inspection of all my hives without a sneeze, which for fellow hay-fever sufferers will attest can only be seen as a bonus. I can assure you it is not easy to wipe your runny nose in a beesuit and the effects of sneezing can be rather distasteful. How...

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Yesterday I put together 2 brood boxes and 5 supers, today I need to make up enough frames to fill them; I know it's a winter time job but after the last couple of years I was beginning to wonder if I'd ever need them.

    bee wear

I have a BBwear full suit which is lasting well and cannot be faulted, it is also the suit of choice for my local SBI if that means anything. I also have a jacket from Sherriff that is very good quality, I tend to use this for lighter jobs and carry it in the car at this time of year.

    Nuc style obs hive plans?

Thanks guys I will PM you later Tom, I only chose the photo in question as an example; I too have my doubts about the lovely finish lasting in the British climate and it obviously needs covers etc. Is this better?

    Confession and advice

I find that a spray of water seems to keep them down longer than smoke; unless it's really hot then they stay on top of the frames drinking up the droplets :)

    Nuc style obs hive plans?

Does anyone by any chance have a set of plans for an observation hive? I'm looking for the type that you can run as a nuc and just put up the frame with the queen on when required. Similar to the photo

    School presentations

I did one a couple of years ago, I wore my suit, took some kit and some A4 photos of bees, wasps and bumbles to illustrate the differences as well as photos of a swarm etc. I also had a hat with veil, some gloves and a couple of children's books that I lent to them for a couple of days. I tried...

How to spoil a nice day.

Dishmop you shouldn't be moving them anywhere until you have the all clear, your local inspector will be along shortly to advise you.
