Yummmm....strawberries....just got back from Oxfordshire. Almost daren't go up to the stables...fearful of finding a big clear up job! The wind here has been horrific....with horizontal rain bucketing down. A bit quieter today though and at least it isn't raining.
We managed to collect our Beehaus...thank you Somerfield.
Another spring project ....pimping this Beehaus added to the list....after renovating the spare Dartington. My aim is to have all my colonies in long hives next year.....inspections will be so much easier.
If it is all a disaster....well...I can put them back into my polys.

Still picking strawberries in the Pollytunnell ! very mild and sheltered here in the semi sub tropical.......

helped along by an extra dash of radiation from the Jonathan at Devonport :D

Had one hive with a four inch thick kingspan bonnet. Acted like a sail and the whole hive was on its side this morning with the wind, even with a breeze block on top. Luckily the kingspan acted as a bit of a cushion and the brood box stayed inside the kingspan sleeve so managed to get them back upright, the warm weather and luckily no heavy rain probably saved them. Just hope queenie survived.
Oops!

We had a terrible night here last night! One of those nights where you are woken up with the horrendous winds thinking 'I hope the bees are OK', well today we checked all our hives in three location and all were still standing, lucky escape I think, so we finally strapped them down - should have done it a month ago.

In for a bit more of a blow today from Storm Barney... 80mph gusts possible in exposed areas in the West... 70mph gusts widely across midlands into Anglia and 50mph South of London. Make sure everything is secure... winds building through the afternoon, in the West and Later afternoon in the East, should calm down by midnight.

Nothing around here above about 70kmh, let alone 70mph. I'm wondering if speed units are not being used properly!

The wind blast as I walk around the corner of the house to the door...grabs the gate out of my hand...its savage! The dogs get blown around the garden like fluffy pom-poms! So far all hives are upright.

won't be with you yet....

Here is a wind forecast map for later on this evening. Barney is a rapidly filling low pressure system and will reach full strength on our side of the country round 9pm this evening.

I know that. I have been watching the local forecast. Still only ~70kmh gusts at peak, forecast around midnight - and that is from the local airbase.

all this fuss over a bit of a blow - I've experienced stronger farts!

If your farts are as described...all I can say...is don't eat beans!......and if you do make sure you are facing south!

Oi we don't want his farts down south. fart west then maybe it will keep them inside him.:sos:

Latest from my local forecast is 82kmh gusts peaking around now for the next hour or so. That is only 50mph, so rather less than some are apparently experiencing. But maybe some estimates are like the aol forecasts which are usually way off beam! The average wind speeds are considerably less than the gusts, so nothing too serious here.

Holy God ... It's a strong un !!

Up in the dark tonight with an armful of bricks to add to ones already on Nucs ( full colonies strapped and weighted ) was worrying might lose some in this.

****** netting blown down but all intact otherwise, serious touch of a Breeze !

I will be going apple picking in the morning. None (well, very few) previously as fallers. I'm not expecting too many to have dropped as they were hanging on well when I picked some last weekend. Virtually devoid of leaves, mind! Now passed and relatively quiet on the wind issue, so no big deal here at any point in time. Storm in a teacup, I reckon.
