Cheaper and much, much more effective to use bits of Kingspan / Celotex. Even more important to have a slab of Kingspan / Celotex over the crownboard.

Worth reading anything on this forum (or elsewhere) by Derek Mitchell who has been researching the subject.
 
Will you keep the half a brood through the winter or just a brood? im thinking ill try and get them just in the brood box and remove the half!!
It’s not a half brood but a nadired super.They are 14x12s. I used to leave them on all winter but I try to not do it at all these days. If I do then I make sure I take them off as soon as the bees have moved the honey up and before I start any feeding.
The cosies have had a coat of paint since then.
