Anyone got a clue what this is?

Cockchafer i think the grubs like to eat roots of grass golf course near me had loads of damage until they found a good spray that killsd the grubs

Yes cockchaffer. We were inundated with a swarm of them when the cherries on our tree were ripe.

May bugs.... B52 Bugs,,,, had one hit me right on the nose this morning when I was chasing a swarm on the bat bike!

ouch !!

yes its a female cockchafer also called May bug. The males have large antennas

i called out to a swarm of bees 2 years ago and it were these bloody bugs!!

If they're about 1 1/4" long then Cockchafers (May bugs). About 3/4" long then garden chafers (June bugs)

There things were bloody big :p i was in garden 9pm putting away all me plywood and i saw about 5-6 of these tings flying about. They kept flying in a straight line in the house walls for some reason, one knocked itself out and i managed to collect it before i woke up :D. Better warn my neighbours since they have alot fo greenhouses with stuff in they wont be to happy if these things decide they wish to munch.

Mine's a male May bug then...crashing about in the undergrowth at the Oxford Botanical Gardens on Friday. Tatty looking things as beetles go...

...seems to be a poor year for bonking beetles btw, or is it that the hogweed's flowering early? Just thought I'd mention it...:p
