what kind of bee is this?

sorry about the quality, the pictures were taken from my mobile. I was watching the hive for about an hour (was meant to be tidying the garden) when I saw the below bee rejected from the hive. It was injured and could no longer use it's wings and seemed to be partially paralysized. i picked it up and put it on my knee to examine, as it looked like a honey bee, yet it was jet black, with very faint lines. A few seconds later, one of my bees whooshed passed my head and not in a friendly way, it was trying to chase me off. I retreated indoors to examine the bee further. Bearing in mind my bees a very docile at the moment and had ignored me for the best part of an hour, or until I picked the black one up, could the scent of their stings on this black bee triggered the guard into action? Also, what kind of bee is this?

[freethorpe bees]

Can't tell for sure but it may be a leaf cutter bee. They have a fairly 'stout' body. Have a look in the garden for tell tale semicircular holes in leaves.
