What did I do to trigger an attack?

After all that... it would appear to me that you have a colony which is putting all the feed into brood. Not that unusual for stock with Italian in it, so keep on feeding!

If the colony acts like that, change the Queen. Impossible to nurse such.

IT is better to ask, what trigger makes you change the Queen?

Thanks for all the advice. She is definitely for replacement in the spring, especially considering their bleedin' comb was like a jigsaw puzzle in the supers.
 
Hi Naked,
I recently changed the queen in a nuc where they came welling out pinging the veil at every inspection. My thought was, if this is what they are like as a six frame nuc I certainly don't want them as a large colony. There temperament changed within a week of uniting, but they also got a full sized hive?
