A few months ago I needed a few bits and pieces so decided to try Mann lake, as I had to pay postage I decided to make up the package and bought a handy little gadget to hold your honey bucket tilted over your bottling tank so that you can go away and leave the last drips make their way out to your bottling tank, it was a little bit cheaper than the rest so i thought I'd give it a go.As it wasn't needed immediately it's been sat in the box ever since so i thought I'd use it this evening to decant some honey into the bottling tank ready for later.......
Well WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH! and too late now really to get in touch with them. the damn thing has been constructed totally arsey facey and instead of holding the bucket tilted above the tank with the lip OVER the tank (as in photo 2) for the honey to pour in it holds the bucket INSIDE the tank (photo 1) so you'd need a 60 lb tank just to receive 30lb of honey!! - the brackets have been welded to the wrong side of the rods - checked the photos on their website and they're all the same.
Byt then again what would you expect from an American firm - Cowboys!

Alas quite a few American companies don't understand our quaint laws, particularly employment law. But the Americans I have met in person, are usually very reasonable.
Give it a go.

Just phone them up, and ask to speak to Patrick himself.

He's a perfectly reasonable chap, and wants happy customers.
If you aren't happy with the design of the thing, just tell him what it is that you think isn't right.
Shouldn't need to be any fuss.


I've got the Thorne's version of such a thing (slightly more expensive).
But when I got it, the first thing I discovered was that it wouldn't fit over the fat rim of the bucket I've been using for bottling (a Thorne's "Mini Strainer & Tank").
And now that I have a thinner rimmed big bucket (from Mann Lake actually), the thing I've discovered about the bucket holder is that the 'claws' would be better to have been further apart, because the honey drains on "a wider front" than the holding hook separation - so they get messier than I'd like.
But it does hold the bucket (without complaint) for ages while the last few drops drip out in their own good time.
Anyway, I'll live with the imperfection of the bucket holder, but right now, I'm looking to sell the "Mini Strainer & Tank" …

when I get my "honey buckets" for 10 p a time, from my local baker, there is sometimes a soft flat plastic scraper thing with them, for getting the last drops out of the bucket. A few quick wipes round and the bucket has very little honey left. Worth asking at your local shop

What did the buckets originally store/hold.

Fondant, cream, jam etc. usually from Bako. They must be food quality. I avoid the salad cream ones. I did make a mistake and buy a salad cream one once, but after washing out I could not detect any problem though. Still prefer to avoid them.

I've used a couple of Thornz bucket holders for many years. You can use two on opposite sides of a settling tank at the same time. They will take 15lb or 30lb buckets, and they will fit a settling tank or my Strainaway tubs, top or bottom (just about). Strainaway... now there's a great product that should be back on the market.

Scrapers are a jolly good idea for clearing out the dregs from the buckets. Lots of flexible silicone ones, some with removabe handles, from lakeland or larger supermarket stores. All my old ones from the ancient kenwood chef have departed this world, but the last only went quite recently.

The Kenwood Chef spatula is a brilliant tool, and certainly helpful for this job.

You can buy them without the mixer for about £2. At Lakeland.

I'm not satisfied at all with Mannlake UK. They advertise in the BKQ as free shipping to the EU - tried placing an order for 20 sheets of plastic foundation and was given a ridiculously expensive shipping cost = EACH SHEET WOULD HAVE COST ABOUT 10 Euros.
Now it is not even possible to place an order from Cyprus. Hello, we are in the EU.................about as unprofessional as you can get.
