Hi all,
Maybe now is not the time, but perhaps the timing is perfect eventhough a bit morbid. Have you ever wondered which kills the most hives varroa infestation or manipulations or lack of by the beekeeper?

Manipulations or lack of by the beekeeper, of course.

Losses due to varroa are down to the beekeeper in a high percentage of the losses

a very zen question...... the bees wouldn't be there in the first place without the beekeeper...

Could have sworn the title was Varroa ON beekeeper - interesting species jump. Thought you were infested for a moment there Beeno!

Dr.Karren alton of LASI university of sussex has a jumper with a model varroa made by the Dr who team which is pro rata the same size on a human as on varroa is on a bee

it is not till you see it you realize that it would be is like having a large le crueset casserole dish on your back sticking acupuncture needles in you

Not really. Think back a bit further; our bees would not be troubled with varroa had it not been for beekeepers (needs far deeper thought than you are probably giving it - a bit like cell size, bee size and comb pitch in supposed natural comb!)

.
That is true: If you have not hives, you have not varroa.

We have an old proverb: " No horse, no problems".

Hi beebopalula,
Glasses would help with the on/or. When it comes to species jumps I am much more concerned about BSE (mad cow) especially since the governments 'cure' of it is to eat the beef before the symptoms occur. Someone I knew back in 2006 who worked in a government lab said that 50% of all dairy cows who died from unknown causes had it, but the farmers were unaware. All British beef for export is BSE tested Brussels demand it. Well, we have all to die from something, but not at the hands of a beekeeper hopefully. But we digress here beebopalula.

It's a nobrainer as far as I'm concerned - thoughtless or clumsy manipulations and a lack of understanding of when to do what or not to.

manipulations or lack of by the beekeeper - most definitely.

Original varroa host copes with them just fine - most problems caused by or exacerbated by man/beekeeper

Yeah Which kill more people, diseases or doctors?.

Which period of history ? During and prior to Victorian times, doctors, most certainly. For any illness, the standard treatment was to relieve the patient of blood. Yeah - just what they needed ...

Dont forget men with chainsaws kill bees, by removing their wild habitat.
if we lump them in definitely

To be fair, there are some women with chainsaws, too...
