I do it during the day - I reckon having less bees in the hive helps distribute the vapour round the hive.

I used to do it at the end of the day when all the flyers were home. I blocked up the entrance. As the hive numbers have grown.....a little I find I run out of daylight.
SO
I tried vaping a little earlier without closing the entrances. I lost very little vapour and only one hive bearded a little. In all the others the bees came and went as if little was amiss

Well as the vapour forms particles throughout the hive I would reckon it makes no difference when you do it.

I agree, i asked this question last year and since, I've found vaping any time of the day is the same effect. dont forget the inside of the hive gets completely coated in a fine layer of the sublimated oxalic acid, so bees have to come in to contact with the stuff even if their out foraging, when they return they come in to contact with the stuff.
just to add, I've just bought a sublime, its the Dogs Watsits, i would reccomend anyone with more than a few hives to invest. it takes about 15 seconds per treatment, a huge cloud blown in to the hive. Like Dani Says, closing the OMF isn't really necessary to be honest, providing its calm.
