I am sure that a number of the DIY experts here are aware that Oxalic acid is recommended for removing rust stains from wood.
I can confirm that over age 3.2% oxalic syrup does a cracking job of getting rid of rust stains in pale oak kitchen tables.
Lots of brownie points garnered - I just wish I had taken a set of before and after photos!
Applied with rubber gloves and all the usual precautions!
