Either the light of the moon or white/blue light from LED torches - that's all the local beekeepers have. The price of equipment is probably the biggiest limiting factor to introducing modern beekeeping techniques to the developing world.

The temperature rarely drops below 16 degrees c, day or night.

Not sure you will get a great deal of sympathy for this just now, Jenny!

Jenny,
Bees have no red vision, they see red light in the same way that we see infra-red. That means that if you use red light (red gel or filter on your torch) there is nothing to attract the bees but you can see. If you get the opportunity some moonless night, give it a try and let us know how you get on, please. :)

You may of course need a slightly higher light level so that you feel you can see adequately.

PS we would all appreciate some of your night time temperatures just now. :grouphug:
More than enough problems with sunshine and snow . . .

Some of my girls appear to have had a pyjama party and so are locked in until the snow dissapears. Crossed legs all round (Carniolans - hold their wonga longa).
