He took his time and had the thought and care for the bee's, thanks for sharing.
Interesting the bottom of the comb was like coral but yet there was virticle comb above I wonder why?
Could it of been because of space?

Looks like it had suffered a partial melt own at some time in the past.

Or the bees had tried to build on from what a big attack by wax moths or hive beetles had left. It is fortunate that modern hives with flat ceilings let the bees tidily herd all the hive beetles upwards into the attic and imprison them there. Small hive beetle - Wikipedia Waxworm - Wikipedia
