I have just searched looking for what to do with the un capping mess!

Can you feed back to bees on top of the crown board?

What do most people do with the cappings on the tray?

Thanks

Cliff

give back to bees to clean up then use for waxcraft.

alternative is to melt the cappings with heat gun instead of cutting off - less mess but no wax to play with.

I stick the cappings in the microwave for a minute or two, then leave it to cool. The wax comes out in a block and I pour off the honey and use it as cooking honey.

Yes, I saw on youtube someone melting the cappings with a heat gun. I wondered if the heat would spoil the honey.

be wary of giving it back to clean up, we tried this with some of our cappings and they chewed up all the cappings.

We steep ours in a litre of vodka - then after straining off the now honey vodka back into the bottle, wash out the cappings to remove the alcohol and let them dry for a few days.

I put my wax capping in a Icecream tub.
If you leave it for a over week they turn it into what I call bee art.
And I sell the tubs for £5.::smilielol5:

I give them a swill in clean water then strain and use the liquid for mead. I melt the wax in a little water and run it through some muslin into another pan to clean it.

Are you sure you dont give the litre of vodka to the bees before giving it back ?

Looking at that comb building they do seem a little wrecked..

We have put the wax left after draining in to a centrifuge juice extractor. Quite a bit of honey comes off. but you can do this only in small quantities in the extractor we have got.
