I enjoy using the hammer. It is annoying when you misjudge put a hole in the wax though. Lots of light taps are better than a few hard bashes

Have you considered paying specsavers a visit..:spy:

Millet have you ever thought of becoming a comedian . you would probably make more money than keeping bee's you make me laugh daily.

Just putting it out there if anyone else had thoughts on it or other ideas that make things a bit easier or cheaper to enjoy this bee keeping business please post.

I have a tip: when you put the foundation in the frame leave a gap at the bottom (I cut a bit of the wax foundation off). The foundation can go a bit buckled and uneven otherwise.

I think I might have got that one from Finman but I noticed that ITLD leaves a gap all round. The bees soon fill it in.

If the tops of your frames are getting lots of brace comb check your castellated runners haven't 'dropped' (with bottom bees space nationals the top of the frame should be flush with the top of the hive). I've had to re-nail a few of mine this year. When changing over to castellated spacers replace those tiddly pins that came with those frame runners with more substantial nails.
