Just reading through BBKA may issue and saw advert for Varroa Med. Claims suitable for organic, zero withdrawal time, suitable for spring summer autumn and winter. As a newbee what are the downsides they arent advertising?

30 secs later and one search reveals this:

"The most common side effect with VarroMed (which may affect more than 1 in 10 bee colonies) is an increased number of deaths of worker bees. This effect increases with higher doses and/or repeated treatments.

VarroMed must not be given during nectar flow, when honey is produced by bees, and should not be used when honey chambers are attached to the hive."

Thats great then innit eh?

Well youre better at searches than me. I could only find the blurb the company put out and one from emaeurope. So basically its stating year round treatment, but reading between the lines its the same as all the others, as bee are producing honey from spring till autumn thus making it useless. Yes? I was excited for a brief moment

It is said too, that it is used to broodless hive. A swarm is such.

Look google "vartomed content".

You see, that it is mixture of formic acid and oxalic acid.

Formic acid works as gas in over 15C air temp. Oxalic acid needs mite contact.

I have used varromed for 2 years, I have had almost no varroa at all, I have not had any bees die - frankly I cannot fault it, so easy to use and one bottle lasts a year providing you keep it in a cool place. I am tempted to buy again for this year but wondering if I should ring the changes.

Isn't it the old "hive clean" by bee vital?
