TE=Dishmop;403405]But theres a US gal and a UK gal.[/QUOTE]

Correct but a quart is still a quarter of a gallon whether your using a uk or a us gallon. It doesnt suddenly become half a gallon in the uk just because the uk pint is slightly bigger that the us pint.

I didnt say it did, but some people from both countries dont know there is a difference.

Why is there a difference.

I dont know why there is a difference but its odd that its the only thing that the USA have thats smaller than anything we have.

Actually its do do with weight and expansion or something.

and my car only does 8.5 miles on a US gallon..

I think there was too much local variation so a new standard was needed. A little earlier time was 'local' - people relied on the town/ church clock - there were no 'pips' to set a standard time.

So, a US pint is 473ml and a US quart twice that, correct?

The imperial measurements are quite different –-568ml for a pint and a quart is HALF a gallon, so four pints instead of two (US).

They would if they had looked at this post but would have been left beliving that a uk quart was half a gallon. I was simply trying to clarify that point.

There isn't a standard time now!

With DAB radio, the pips are wrong.

Its also to do with weight somewhere along the line.

16 oz in a pint and a lb I think.

Miles per litre is good.

There was a woman in London who went around selling time. Charged people to set thier clocks and watches to the accurate one she had.... (well that was her story)..
